How and Why I Use Twitter
Hey there:
You’re probably here because you’re trying to figure out if I’m worth following or not :)
Fair enough, since my updates are protected, you don’t have my “tweet history” to include in your personal “should I follow this guy” algorithm.
This page is to here to help supplement that algorithm with some additional data.
How I Use Twitter
- I use Twitter to stay connected to my friends, family, acquaintances and business associates.
- I also use it to get instant updates on local and world news
- I sometimes use Twitter to connect with people who I find funny, interesting or relevant to my interests.
- Twitter also helps me to get to the point. As you can tell by this page, expressing myself in 140 characters or less doesn’t come easy for me. Twitter is therapy :)
- Lastly, I use Twitter to keep up to date on what’s happening with my favorite bands and brands (both “personal” and “corporate”)
Why are my updates protected?
One of the nice things about Twitter is that there’s no “one” way to do it. Each user gets to roll their own experience.
For some, that may be no Twitter at all, for others, that may be following thousands of random people. I’m somewhere in between :)
With this particular Twitter account, I post about a wider, sometimes more personal range of topics. While I don’t feel the need to broadcast to the world, I am comfortable sharing it with the handful of people that decide they are interested in what I have to say.
Plus, I’m a bit of a control freak, so it’s nice to be able to decide who gets to see what.
I realize that it goes against what some people feel Twitter is for, but again, to each their own :)
What I “tweet” about:
Through my main @circler Twitter account I tweet about family, business, random thoughts, food, observations and sometimes even answer that “what are you doing” question :)
I use it as both a microblog (since I suck at actual blogging), and as a way to converse and connect with the folks in my twitterstream.
Sometimes what people say to you or about you says more about you than what you say yourself. You can see what people have said @me to get a sneak peak at at least half the conversation :)
I do have more “public” accounts where I occasionally tweet about more focused/niche topics like clowns, t-shirts, poker, domain names, and the search for the perfect cheeseburger.
My Twitter Commandments:
- If I follow you, it’s because I’m interested in what you have to say. It is by no means a request for you to follow me back.
- Please don’t feel like you’re under some obligation to follow me back. Just because I find your tweets interesting doesn’t mean you’ll find my tweets interesting.
- You are more than welcome to follow me to see what I tweet about and unfollow me 1 second later :)
- My feelings aren’t hurt if at anytime you decide you’d rather not follow me tweets anymore. You can’t be everything to everyone all the time. I hope you feel the same way :)
You know what would make this page complete?
A random picture of some guy doing the robot. Not half way either…I mean FULLY committing.
What a coincidence, here comes one now:
